Top 50 CEO

HBR just released Top 50 CEO

http://hbr.org/2010/01/the-best-performing-ceos-in-the-world/sb1

Interestingly , 70% has no MBA degree .. Could not figure out Why ???

May be couple of companies are IT , which are still run by their college drop out founders   OR couple of companies  run by family OR some companies are quite old when MBA may not be very important and CEO grew with in the company OR ????  .. .... Do drop your comments if you got some other reason.

BTW , I am happy Steve Jobs is number 1  ..  Mukesh Ambani is also at @5

Process DOES not generate talent.
I repeat.
Process DOES not generate talent.
I repeat again
Process DOES not generate talent.
Then what process does? Given talented people are there as part of the process, it gathers talented people.

Assuming - there are talented people in the process.

Now that is why the IIM-MBA, the IIT-Eng are revered organisation.

Now, assume there are talented people already - what they would do is to reduce the failure probability - by making the initial bar higher and higher.
That is why entering there is tough.

Moreover - similar talent attracts similar talent. Hence we see patterns of behavior from people from a specific institution.

That while not necessarily correct, makes some sense.

The point is - if teaching people in MBA institutions are so smart - they can be CEO and earn more money - they would.

If you are a CEO material - then you are a CEO material. You can polish talent - can not create it.

Institution is s *smart* people selection criterion, nothing else.

I would end quoting Gibbon -
"But the power of instruction is seldom of much efficacy, except in those happy dispositions where it is almost superfluous".
